Formula 1 2001 Is Coming!!!
Are you geared up for the new Formula 1 season-well this site certainly is!!Breaking News Story:
GUYANCOURT, France -- Prost Grand Prix threatened Jaguar and Pedro de la Rosa with legal action on Tuesday after the Spaniard was confirmed as a test driver for the British team.
Pedro de la Rosa is in the middle of a potential legal battle between Prost and Jaguar.
Prost Grand Prix claimed De la Rosa had already signed for them and said they have exclusive rights to the former Arrows driver. The French team had announced on Feb. 6 that De la Rosa was joining them.
Prost issued a statement Tuesday to signal their intention to take legal action against Jaguar, based in the English town of Milton Keynes, De la Rosa and his representatives.
"We learn, with a strong disapproval, the finalization of a test driver's agreement with Pedro de la Rosa and Jaguar," the Prost statement read.
"We regret this signature, made in spite of our formal warnings to the different parties involved.
"We have an agreement giving us exclusive rights on test driver's services of Mr Pedro de la Rosa. This is public knowledge.
"We intend to exercise our rights against him as well as his representatives and agents and if necessary against our competitor."
De la Rosa tested Prost's new AP04 at Estoril last week and the team said that came as part of the deal he signed.
"Mr De la Rosa himself declared it (the contract) on several occasions, and even began the execution of this agreement on the test track.
"For us it is mainly a question of having the interests of our team respected, both on principle and for professional ethics and because of the prejudice suffered by our company which wrongly preferred, some weeks ago, Mr De la Rosa to other candidates."
Earlier on Tuesday Jaguar said De la Rosa had agreed to a one-year contract for 2001 to test alongside former world champion Jody Scheckter's 20-year-old son Tomas.
A statement said the 29-year-old De la Rosa from Barcelona "will race for the team in the future."
South African Tomas Scheckter expressed surprise that Jaguar had signed De la Rosa to work with him as a test driver.
Scheckter said he had been unaware of moves to bring in the former Arrows driver.
